DRDO, IIT Delhi, and Industry Partners Forge 10 Tripartite Agreements in New Delhi.

On 19th December 2024, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, and industry partners formalized 10 tripartite agreements at the event 'DRDO-Industry-Academia - Global Approach to Readiness of Indigenous Military Applications' (DIA-GARIMA).
- The event was organized by the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) at IIT Delhi, New Delhi.
- The agreements were signed in the presence of Dr. Samir V. Kamat (Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development, Ministry of Defence, and Chairman of DRDO), Professor Rangan Banerjee (Director, IIT Delhi), and representatives from industry partners.
- DRDO has adopted a collaborative policy involving universities and industries in defence research to foster advancements in cutting-edge defence technologies and to support the "Aatmanirbhar Bharat" initiative, promoting self-reliance in defence production.
Main Point :- (i) DRDO partnered with MIDHANI (Rohtak), SMPP Private Limited (New Delhi), and AR Polymers (MKU, Kanpur) to produce modular-design bullet-resistant jackets weighing 8.2 kg and 9.5 kg, providing 360-degree protection.
(ii) Agreements were signed with Reliance Industries Limited (Mumbai) for ballistic material development and with multiple industries for producing Extreme Cold and Extreme Heat Protective Clothing, including Aeronav Industrial Safety Appliance and Arrow Garments.
(iii) Established in 2017 at IIT Delhi, the DRDO-Industry-Academia Centre of Excellence (DIA-CoE) has launched 50 research projects worth ₹375 crore, focusing on soldier-centric innovations like lightweight body armour, smart soldier jackets, and extreme weather gear.
