The United Nations (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is annually observed across the globe on 25 November to raise global awareness about the issue of violence against women and highlight the importance of efforts to prevent such violence.


      - 25th November 2024 marks the 25th International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.

      - Globally, female genital mutilation has increased by 15% over the past eight years.

     

Main Points:-   (i) Around 1 in 3 women globally have experienced either physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner, or sexual violence from a non-partner, at some point in their lives - 1 in 4 adolescent girls is abused by their partners.

      (ii) 16% to 58% of women worldwide experience technology-facilitated gender-based violence, with Generation Z and Millennials being the most impacted.

(iii) In conflict, war, and humanitarian crises, 70% of women experience gender-based violence.
