President Murmu Inaugurates 125th Birth Anniversary Celebrations of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab.

On 21st November 2024, Droupadi Murmu, President of India, inaugurated the 125th birth anniversary celebration of Utkal Keshari Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab in New Delhi, Delhi. The celebration was organised by the Ministry of Culture (MOC).


      - Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab is a leader of the Indian National Congress (INC), a notable figure in the Indian independence movement, and a former Chief Minister (CM) of Odisha.

      - The 125th birth anniversary of Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab will be celebrated with year-long events across India, highlighting his significant contributions to the Indian freedom struggle, the development of Odisha, and his impact on the literary world.

      - A special exhibition on Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab's life, organized by Lalit Kala Akademi, and a short film showcasing his legacy were featured at the event.

Main Points:-   (i) Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, MoC; Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ministry of Education (MoE); and Mohan Charan Majhi, Chief Minister (CM) of Odisha, were present during the event.

      (ii) President Droupadi Murmu released a commemorative stamp of Rs.5 and a commemorative coin of Rs.125 to mark Dr. Mahtab's 125th birth anniversary.

(iii) She also released three notable works: Harekrushna Mahtab: A Monograph in Odia by Baishnaba Charan Samal, published by Sahitya Akademi; Gaon Majlis, the English translation by Tarun Kumar Sahu of Dr. Mahtab's Sahitya Akademi Award-winning Odia essays; and Gaon Majlis, the Hindi translation of the same work by Sujata Shiven.
