Armenia Becomes the 104th Full Member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).

On November 21, 2024, Randhir Jaiswal, Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), announced that the Republic of Armenia became the 104th full member of the International Solar Alliance (ISA).


      - Armenia's full membership in the ISA is effective from November 15, 2024, while the corresponding agreement was signed on November 16, 2023, in Yerevan, Armenia.

      - Vahagn Afyan, the Ambassador of Armenia to India, handed over the ISA Instrument of Ratification to Abhishek Singh, the Head of the Department of Economic Diplomacy and Multilateral Economic Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in New Delhi.

      - By 2030, ISA aims to mobilize 1000 billion investments for the massive deployment of solar energy as a treaty-based intergovernmental organization.

Main Points:-   (i) ISA was launched by the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, and the former President of France, Francois Hollande, during the COP21 Paris Climate Conference held in November 2015.

      (ii) The main objective of ISA is to promote solar energy deployment and reduce dependence on fossil fuels among member countries situated between the Tropic of Cancer and Tropic of Capricorn.

(iii) ISA became the first international intergovernmental organization to be headquartered in India.
