Daniel Barenboim and Ali Abu Awwad Awarded the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize 2023.

Daniel Barenboim, a world-famous pianist and conductor, and Ali Abu Awwad, a Palestinian peace activist, were honored with the most prestigious "Indira Gandhi Prize for Peace, Disarmament, and Development 2023" award on Indira Gandhi's 106th birth anniversary for their contribution towards peace and non-violence in the Israel-Palestine conflict.


      - The awardees were selected by a jury headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) T S Thakur.

      - The award was presented virtually on Indira Gandhi's birth anniversary (19th November) and was attended by Chairperson of Indira Gandhi Memorial Trust Sonia Gandhi, former Vice President of India M Hamid Ansari, current head of the jury and former National Security Advisor (NSA) Shivshankar Menon, Justice T S Thakur, and Mariam C.

      - He received many awards and prizes, including six Grammy awards, an honorary Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire, and the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Main Points:-   (i) Ali Abu Awwad (52) is a prominent Palestinian peace activist who has worked in peace-building in Israel and Palestine for many years.

      (ii) He created the Palestinian non-violence movement Taghyeer, which envisions a democratic, independent Palestinian society based on freedom, dignity, and security.
