The 1st edition of 'Sagarmanthan - The Great Oceans Dialogue', South Asia's largest Maritime Thought Leadership summit, was held from November 18-19, 2024, at ITC Maurya in New Delhi, Delhi.
- It was organized by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India (GoI) in partnership with New Delhi-based global think tank, Observer Research Foundation (ORF), to foster Global Maritime Cooperation.
- The inaugural session featured speeches by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) Sarbananda Sonowal, Greece’s Minister of Maritime Affairs Christos Stylianides, Maldives’ Minister of State for Fisheries Dr. Amzath Ahmed, Argentina’s Rio Negro Representative Maria Lorena Villaverde, MoPSW Secretary TK Ramachandran, and ORF President Samir Saran.
- The Dialogue featured participants from 60 countries across the globe, with more than 1700 participants including ministers, former heads of state and government, journalists, and experts.
Main Points:- (i) Sagarmanthan provides a global platform for leaders and policymakers to discuss critical maritime topics like the blue economy, global supply chains, maritime logistics, and sustainable growth, aiming to create a future-ready maritime ecosystem.
(ii) The event focuses on four main themes: New Frontiers, Blue Growth, Green and Blue, and Coasts and Communities, addressing challenges and opportunities in ocean governance.
