Ayushman Bharat Vay Vandana Card reaches over 10 lakh enrollments within 3 weeks of its launch.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) official data, as of 17th November 2024, over 10 lakh senior citizens aged 70 and above have enrolled for the newly launched Ayushman Bharat: Vaya Vandana Card (AB-VVC), which enables them to avail free healthcare benefits under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).


      - This achievement comes within 3 weeks of the AB-VVC's rollout by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on the occasion of Dhanvantari Jayanti and Ayurveda Day (29th October 2024) at the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi, Delhi.

      - All senior citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status, will receive health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh per family.

      - Senior citizens from families already covered under AB PM-JAY will receive an additional top-up of Rs 5 lakh exclusively for themselves, separate from the rest of the family. Those who are not part of the existing scheme will receive Rs 5 lakh per annum on a family basis.

Main Points:-   (i) Senior citizens who are already enrolled in public health schemes such as Central Government Health Scheme (CCHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), or Ayushman Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will have the option to either continue with their existing scheme or they can choose AB PM-JAY.

      (ii) Senior citizens aged 70 and above, who are enrolled under private health insurance policies or Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme, will be eligible to avail the benefits of AB PM-JAY.

(iii) Over 4 lakh women aged 70+ have enrolled in AB-VVC, with over ₹9 crore authorized for treatments benefiting 4,800 senior citizens. Procedures include coronary angioplasty, hip replacement, cataract surgery, and stroke care.
