Children's Day or Bal Diwas is annually observed across India on November 14 to honor the birth anniversary of India's 1st Prime Minister (PM), Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, who is remembered for his affection for children.


      - 14th November 2024 marks the 135th birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

      - After the death of Jawaharlal Nehru in 1964, India began celebrating Children's Day on November 14 in honor of his birthday.

      - India's highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna, was awarded to him in 1955.

Main Points:-   (i) Before 1964, India celebrated Children's Day on November 20, which is the day the United Nations (UN) celebrated World Children's Day.

      (ii) In 1929, he was elected President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and was the PM of the interim Indian Government between 1946 and 1950.
