The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi, has appointed Deepak Agarwal as the new Managing Director (MD) of the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED), under the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare (MoA&FW).

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - Deepak Agarwal, a 2000-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Uttar Pradesh (UP) cadre, will hold th post for a fixed term of 5 years.
  • - Previously in September 2024, MoA&FW assigned additional charge of MD of NAFED to Muktanand Agrawal, a Joint Secretary, MoA&FW. The order was issued after Ritesh Chauhan demitted from office as MD.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i)On 30th September 2024, Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, was assigned as the MD of NAFED, initially for "a period of three months or till the appointment of a regular incumbent to the post."
  • (ii) New Delhi (Delhi) based NAFED was established in 1958. It is registered under the Multi State Co-operative Societies Act.
