Public Service Broadcasting Day (PSBD), also referred to as Jan Prasaran Diwas, is celebrated every year on 12th November to mark the historic occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to the All India Radio (AIR) studios in New Delhi in 1947.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - After the Partition of India and Pakistan, Mahatma Gandhi visited the AIR studio at Broadcasting House, New Delhi, to address the refugees from Pakistan who were camped at Kurukshetra, Haryana.
  • - A programme was organised on 12 November 1997 to commemorate the completion of 50 years of Gandhi's AIR journey.
  • - In 2001, November 12 every year was declared as Public Service Broadcasting Day. The event was conceptualised by Suhas Borkar, convener of Jan Prasaran.

  • (i) AIR is a public service broadcaster of India and the radio vertical of Prasar Bharati.
  • (ii) AIR's Home Service consists of 479 stations spread across India, reaching about 92% of the area and 99.19% of the total population.
