Cairn Oil & Gas becomes India's first to join UN's Methane Reduction Initiative.

Cairn Oil & Gas, a Vedanta Group co., has become the 1st oil & gas producer in India to join UNEP's Oil & Gas Methane Partnership (OGMP) 2.0 after signing MoU with UNEP in Abu Dhabi, UAE.


      - This initiative announced on Nov 4, 2024, aims to address methane emissions in the oil & gas sector, aligning with global climate change efforts.

      - The partnership aligns with Cairn's goal to decarbonize ops, aiming for Net Zero Carbon by 2030.

      - Under the MoU, Cairn will set a 5-year target to reduce methane emissions & will transparently report progress.

Main Points:-   (i) The OGMP 2.0 initiative covers over 40% of global oil & gas production, providing a framework for MRV of methane emissions.

      (ii) This collaboration will contribute to the Global Methane Pledge's broader goal of a 30% reduction in global methane emissions by 2030.
