Justice Sanjiv Khanna Takes Oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India.

Justice Sanjiv Khanna has taken oath as the 51st Chief Justice of India (CJI), succeeding Justice DY Chandrachud, who retired on November 10, 2024.


      - Justice Sanjiv Khanna will hold the post till May 13, 2025.

      - The oath of office was administered by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, attended by VP Jagdeep Dhankhar, PM Narendra Modi, and other cabinet members.

      - Article 124(1) of the Indian Constitution establishes the Supreme Court of India and specifies that it shall include the Chief Justice of India.

Main Points:-   (i) Justice Sanjiv Khanna began his legal career by enrolling as an advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in 1983.

      (ii) He was appointed as an additional judge of the Delhi High Court in 2005, became a permanent judge in 2006, and later ascended to the Supreme Court of India on January 18, 2019.

(iii) From June 17, 2023, to December 25, 2023, he served as the Chairman of the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee.
