MSDE Reconstitutes Central Apprenticeship Council (CAC) for 3 Years to Strengthen Apprenticeship Training Programs.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has reconstituted the Central Apprenticeship Council (CAC) for a three-year term, effective from October 17, 2024.

🎯 Key Highlights:

  • - This move is in accordance with the powers granted under Sec 24(1) and (2) of the Apprentices Act, 1961 (52 of 1961) and Rules 3 and 4 of the CAC Rules, 1962.
  • - The reformed council will focus on driving reforms to enhance apprenticeship training and increase industry participation in on-the-job training.

💡 Other Important Facts:

  • (i) Union Minister of State (Independent Charge, IC), Jayant Chaudhary, MSDE will chair the council, with Rajya Sabha member Vikramjit Singh Sahney as the vice-chairman of the council.
  • (ii) The new CAC will have 54 members, an increase from 46 in the 2019 council, including representatives from industry associations, PSUs, state governments, and independent experts.
  • (iii) There will be representation from PSUs such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOC), and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), among others.
