World Urbanism Day (WUD), also known as World Town Planning Day (WTPD), is annually observed across the globe on 8th November to recognize and promote the role of planners and planning in developing healthy, sustainable communities.
- The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) promotes the observance of this day.
Main Points:- (i) The theme for WTPD 2024 is "Homes Start with Planning"
(ii) WTPD was initially proposed in 1949 by Late Prof. Carlos Maria della Paolera of the Univ. of Buenos Aires (Argentina).
(iii) In India, WTPD is organized by the New Delhi-based Institute of Town Planners India (established in 1951).
