Indian Railways Signs MoU with Switzerland for Technical Collaboration.

MOUs and Agreement

The Indian Railways (IR), under the Ministry of Railways (MoR), has entered into a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport and Communications (DETEC) of Switzerland to foster enhanced technical cooperation between the two nations.


      - The MoU aims to strengthen collaboration in key areas such as technology sharing, track maintenance, management, and construction, aligning with the Indian government's commitment to modernizing the railway system.

      - Swiss companies will provide specialized machinery, materials, and consultancy services for tunneling projects.

      - The initial MoU, signed on August 31, 2017, for five years, focused on cooperation in areas such as Traction Rolling Stock, Electric Multiple Units (EMU), Passenger and Freight Cars, Tilting Trains, Railway Electrification, Train Scheduling, Railway Station Modernization, Multimodal Transport Solutions, and Tunneling Technology.

Main Points:-   (i) The agreement, finalized through video conferencing, was jointly approved by the Ministry of Railways (MoR) and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), focusing on strengthening technical cooperation between India and Switzerland.

      (ii) The event saw the participation of Mridul Kumar, Ambassador of India to Switzerland, and Albert Roesti, head of DETEC, Switzerland.
