The increase in MGNREGA person days from Rs 1660 crore (FY07-FY14) to Rs 2923 crore (FY15-FY25) gave a new direction to rural employment.

As per data from the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), rural employment under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act 2005 (MGNREGA) has seen significant growth over the past decade. From the Financial Year 2006-07 (FY07) to FY14, a total of 1,660 crore person-days were generated. In contrast, from FY15 to FY25, this number surged to 2,923 crore person-days.


      - This marks an increase of approximately 76.1% in person-days generated over the two periods.

      - According to NREGASoft, in FY 2023-24, states/UTs deleted a total of 102.20 lakh job cards, while in FY 2024-25 (as of October 26, 2024), deletions had dropped to 32.28 lakh.

     

Main Points:-   (i) MoRD also reported that Aadhaar seeding has been completed for about 13 crore active workers, representing 99.3% of total active workers. This process has helped reduce transaction rejections caused by frequent account changes.

      (ii) The budget allocation for MGNREGA has risen to ₹86,000 crore in FY 2024-25, up from ₹33,000 crore in FY 2013-14.

(iii) The minimum average notified wage rate has increased by 7% in FY25.
