MOYAS Announces Replacement of Dhyan Chand Lifetime Award with Arjuna Lifetime Award.

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MoYAS) announced the discontinuation of the Dhyan Chand Award for lifetime achievement and the introduction of the Arjuna Award (Lifetime) starting from 2024.


      - The Arjuna Award (Lifetime) will replace the Dhyan Chand Award to streamline India’s various sporting honours.

      - The Arjuna Award (Lifetime) will recognize lifetime contributions to sports development.

      - To honor the Khelo India scheme, the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy will be awarded to the university with the overall top performance in the Khelo India University Games.

Main Points:-   (i) Instituted in 2002, the Dhyan Chand Lifetime Award is presented annually to individuals excelling in disciplines featured in the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, and others.

      (ii) The award consists of a statue of Dhyan Chand, a certificate, a ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees.

(iii) In 2023, the Dhyan Chand Lifetime Award was presented to former shuttler Manjusha Kanwar, ex-hockey player Vineet Kumar, and kabaddi player Kavitha Selvaraj.
