New Delhi (Delhi)-based National Thermal Power Corporation Limited (NTPC) has collaborated with the Indian Army (IA) to set up a Solar Hydrogen-based Microgrid at Chushul in Leh district of the Union Territory (UT) of Ladakh.

      - The initiative is focused on delivering a round-the-clock, stable power supply using green hydrogen technology to off-grid Army locations.

      - The Solar Hydrogen Microgrid, developed by NTPC, will provide 200 kilowatts (kW) of uninterrupted power throughout the year, replacing existing diesel generators in off-grid Army areas.

      - The microgrid is engineered to withstand extreme winter temperatures, reaching as low as -30°C, and will operate at an altitude of 4,400 meters, ensuring energy security for soldiers in challenging terrains.

Main Points:-   (i) Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Ministry of Defence (MoD), virtually inaugurated the project, with senior officials from MoD, the IA, and NTPC in attendance.

(ii) NTPC will be responsible for maintaining the project for 25 years, guaranteeing consistent and reliable power in strategically important regions.

(iii) NTPC is targeting a Renewable Energy (RE) capacity of 60 gigawatts (GW) by 2032.
