Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh Launches Pandemic Fund Project and 21st Livestock Census to Enhance Animal Health Security.

On 25th October 2024, Union Minister Rajeev Ranjan Singh, alias Lalan Singh, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying (MoFAH&D), launched the Pandemic Fund Project, a USD 25 million initiative funded by the Group-20 (G20) Pandemic Fund.
- This project aims to strengthen animal health security in India for pandemic preparedness and response during an event held in New Delhi, Delhi.
- The "Animal Health Security Strengthening in India for Pandemic Preparedness and Response" initiative is designed to reduce risks associated with zoonotic diseases that can spread from animals to humans.
- Key activities under the project include strengthening and integrating disease surveillance and Early Warning Systems (EWS), upgrading and expanding the laboratory network, and building capacity for data analytics and risk communication, among others.
Main Points:- (i) The Union Minister also launched the 21st Livestock Census, which will be conducted until February 2025 at an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore.
(ii) Union Minister of State (MoS) George Kurian, S.P. Singh Bhagel (MoFAH&D), Amitabh Kant (G20 Sherpa), Professor Dr. V.K. Paul (Member, Health, NITI Aayog), Alka Upadhyaya (Secretary, DAHD), and representatives from all 36 states and Union Territories (UTs) were present at the event.
