The United Nations (UN)'s International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI) is observed annually worldwide on 2nd November to raise awareness about the dangers of impunity for crimes against journalists.


      - The day also honors journalists who lost their lives while performing their duties.

      - It provides a platform to emphasize the importance of journalism and media in preventing violence and discrimination.

     

Main Points:-   (i) On 18th December 2013, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/68/163, declaring 2nd November as the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists (IDEI).

      (ii) The first-ever IDEI was observed on 2nd November 2014.
