World Savings Day Celebrated on 31 October 2024 to promote financial awareness.

"World Savings Day (WSD)", also known as World Thrift Day, is observed annually on October 31 worldwide to raise awareness about the importance of saving and ensuring the financial security of individuals.


      - In India, the observance is shifted to October 30 due to the tragic assassination of then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, whose death anniversary falls on October 31, 1984.

      - The "National Savings Institute (NSI)" of India, which is responsible for managing savings schemes, actively promotes financial literacy.

     

Main Points:-   (i) World Thrift Day was established on "October 31, 1924" by the founding members of the "World Savings and Retail Banking Institute (WSBI)". October 31 marks the birth of the "International Savings Banking Institute, now known as WSBI.

      (ii) The first "WSD" was observed on "October 31, 1924.

(iii) WSBI" celebrated its "100th anniversary" in "Rome, Italy" during the '27th WSBI World Congress' on 'October 30-31, 2024'..
