The Indian Army (IA)'s Infantry Day is annually observed across India on 27th October to commemorate the contributions of the Infantry in protecting India's sovereignty and security.


      - 27th October 2024 marks the observance of the 78th Infantry Day.

      - The day commemorates the landing of the 1st Battalion of the Sikh Regiment at Srinagar airfield in 1947 to protect Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) from Pakistani Kabaili Raiders and the Pakistan Army.

      - The Indian Army also celebrates Shaurya Diwas to commemorate the successful landing of the Indian Army at Srinagar Airfield on October 27, 1947.

Main Points:-   (i) Lt Col Rai was killed in action on the outskirts of Baramulla (Kashmir). He was posthumously honoured with the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) for his gallant action and exceptional valour.

      (ii) During Shaurya Diwas celebrations at the National War Memorial in New Delhi, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan and Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi laid wreaths in tribute to the courageous infantry soldiers who sacrificed their lives for India’s security and freedom.
