Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Raising Day is observed annually on 24th October to commemorate the establishment of the ITBP, a Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in 1962.


      - The day honors ITBP's commitment to securing India's borders and instills a sense of safety and confidence among the communities living in remote border areas.

      - The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was established on 24th October 1962 to reorganize intelligence and security along the Indo-Tibetan border.

      - Initially, the force started with the sanction of just 4 Battalions and operated under the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Act, 1949.

  (i) The ITBP emblem features the national symbol, Ashoka’s Lion Capital, mounted on a chakra crossed by two loaded rifles, symbolizing the courage and readiness of the force.

      (ii) ITBP is tasked with diverse responsibilities, including border guarding, counter-insurgency operations, and internal security.

(iii) The number of ITBP Battalions has gradually increased, and currently, ITBP has 62 battalions (56 regular and 4 specialist), 17 training centers, and 7 logistics establishments, with a total strength of approximately 90,000 personnel.
