  • - Why October 24? The date of the observance was chosen to coincide with UN Day (24th October) and to mark the date of adoption of the 1970 International Development Strategy for the Second United Nations Development Decade.
  • - The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) tackles three major challenges globally: eradicating poverty, driving sustainable development, and strengthening resilience to crises and shocks.

  • (i) In 1972, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/3038(XXVII) and declared October 24 of every year as World Development Information Day (WDID).
