Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Launches "International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System.

On 22nd October 2024, Union Minister Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia, Ministry of Communications (MoC) and Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDONER) launched the "International Incoming Spoofed Calls Prevention System" at the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Bhawan in New Delhi, Delhi.


      - The system aims to reduce fraudulent calls that appear with a +91 (India) prefix but originate from abroad.

      - This launch marks another milestone in the Department of Telecommunications (DoT)'s efforts to create a safer digital environment and protect citizens from cyber-crime.

     

Main Points:-   (i) Key People: Union Minister of State (MoS) Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, MoC; Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), and other senior officers attended the event.

      (ii) The system was developed by the DoT under the MoC in collaboration with Telecom Service Providers (TSPs) to detect and block incoming international spoofed calls intended for Indian telecom subscribers.

(iii) The integrated system became operational on 17th October 2024 and, within 24 hours, successfully identified and blocked 1.35 crore (13.5 million) or 90% of all incoming international calls with Indian phone numbers flagged as spoofed.
