SIMBEX 2024 India-Singapore Naval Exercise Commences Near Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh.

On October 23-29, 2024, the 31st edition of the joint Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) 2024 was conducted off the coast of Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. This annual event aims to enhance naval cooperation between the Indian Navy (IN) and the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN).


      - The exercise is divided into two phases: the Harbour Phase from October 23 to 25 at Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, and the Sea Phase from October 28 to 29 in the Bay of Bengal.

      - Harbour Phase (October 23-25) is Conducted at the Eastern Naval Command in Visakhapatnam, this phase focuses on fostering interpersonal relationships through cultural exchanges and sports activities among personnel from both navies. It also includes subject matter expert exchanges and pre-sail briefings.

      - Sea Phase (October 28-29) is Held in the Bay of Bengal, this phase involves advanced naval drills, including live weapon firings, Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) training, and tactical maneuvers. RSN deployed its ship RSS Tenacious, along with helicopters, for these exercises.

Main Points:-   (i) The opening ceremony was held onboard Indian Naval Ship (INS) Shivalik.

      (ii) Shivalik-class frigate INS Shivalik, equipped with an MH-60R Seahawk, a Sindhughosh-class submarine, a P-81 maritime patrol aircraft, and two MiG-29K fighter jets.
