ISRO Prepares for 'Space Handshake' SPADEX as Private Firm Delivers Two Satellites.

Science and Technology

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has secured two 400 kg satellites as part of the upcoming Space Docking Experiment (SPADEX) mission.

      - These satellites will be launched into slightly different orbits by a single rocket during the mission.

      - Ananth Technologies Private Limited (ATL) has facilitated the integration of the two 400 kg satellites for ISRO, which were delivered to the Udupi Ramachandra Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) in Bengaluru, a facility dedicated to the design and development of satellites.

Main Points:-   (i) SPADEX will demonstrate independent engagement and docking, enabling two spacecraft to function as a unified unit with controlled movement. This capability is crucial for constructing and maintaining a space station.

(ii) Successful development of SPADEX technologies will allow for robotic assembly of space station modules (large structural components) in orbit.

(iii) Additionally, the upcoming Chandrayaan-4 mission, which aims to return with lunar samples, will involve autonomous docking in orbit around the moon.
