According to the NCPCR report, India has more than 1.15 million children at risk of child marriage.

According to the latest report from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), more than 1.15 million children across India’s 27 states and 7 Union Territories (UTs) were found to be "vulnerable" to child marriage in 2023-24.


      - Most of these vulnerable children are girls who have either dropped out of school or have been irregular or absent for a long time without notifying the authorities.

     

     

Main Points:-   (i) Uttar Pradesh (UP) has the highest number of vulnerable children, with over 500,000, followed by Assam with 150,000 and Madhya Pradesh (MP) with nearly 100,000.

      (ii) Meanwhile, Union Territories like Lakshadweep and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands reported no children vulnerable to child marriage.
