The United Nations (UN) World Food Day (WFD) is observed every year on October 16 to raise awareness about healthy diets, promote action against malnutrition and food security, and emphasize the need for regular access to nutritious food.
- This day also marks the establishment of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UN in 1945.
Main Points:- (i) The theme for WFD 2024 is "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future."
(ii) WFD was established in 1979 during the 20th session of the FAO Conference held in Rome, Italy.
