The United Nations (UN) observes the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (IDEP) annually on October 17 to foster understanding and dialogue between people living in poverty and the wider society.


      - October 17, 2024, marks the 32nd commemoration of IDEP.

     

     

Main Points:-   (i) The theme for IDEP 2024 is "Ending Social and Institutional Maltreatment: Acting Together for Just, Peaceful, and Inclusive Societies."

      (ii) On December 22, 1992, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) adopted resolution A/RES/47/196, designating October 17 of each year as the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

(iii) The first UN-recognized IDEP was observed on October 17, 1993.
