The Government of India has extended the "Samarth" scheme for capacity building in the textiles sector until March 2026.

The Government of India (GOI) has decided to extend the Samarth Scheme for Capacity Building in the Textiles Sector (SCBTS), a demand-driven and placement-oriented skilling program under the Ministry of Textiles (MoT), for an additional two years—Financial Year 2024-25 (FY25) and FY26.


      - The scheme has a budget of ₹495 crore aimed at training 3 lakh individuals in textile-related skills.

      - The scheme aims to promote job creation in organized textile and related sectors, covering the entire textile value chain except spinning and weaving.

      - In addition to entry-level skills, the scheme also offers upskilling and reskilling programs to enhance the productivity of existing workers in the apparel and garmenting segments.

Main Points:-   (i) So far, under the Samarth scheme, the MoT, through its partners, has trained 3.27 lakh individuals, with 2.65 lakh (nearly 80%) employed and 2.89 lakh (88.3%) being women.

      (ii) Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Gujarat are the leading states in textile and clothing manufacturing in India
