Union Minister Piyush Goyal has launched the District Master Plan under the PM Gati Shakti initiative for 27 aspirational districts.

On October 15, 2024, Union Minister Piyush Goyal from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry launched the District Master Plan (DMP) under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan (NMP). This launch, aimed at developing 27 aspirational districts across India, marked three years since the PM Gati Shakti NMP was first introduced on October 13, 2024.


      - He announced that the DMP will expand to cover over 750 districts nationwide within the next 18 months.

      - During the event, he also introduced the "Guidelines for Preparing City Logistics Plans for Indian Cities," aimed at supporting cities in developing customized logistics strategies.

      - The NMP scope now includes mapping social infrastructure like power lines, schools, and hospitals through the "Area Development Approach."

Main Points:-   (i) District Master Plan was launched on October 13, 2021, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, with a budget allocation of ₹100 lakh crore.

      (ii) Developed as a Digital Master Planning tool by the Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics (BISAG-N) in Gujarat, using a dynamic Geographic Information System (GIS) platform that integrates data from action plans of all ministries and departments into a comprehensive database.
