NSSO has released the PLFS for 2023-24, highlighting trends among religious minorities.

The National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), part of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), has released the "Periodic Labour Force Survey (PLFS) for July 2023 to June 2024." This survey shows that unemployment rates among India's religious minorities increased during this period.


      - The overall national unemployment rate remained steady at 3.2% for the first time in five years, but joblessness among minorities, especially Sikhs and Muslims, rose significantly.

     

     

Main Points:-   (i) In 2023-24, unemployment was higher for all minorities in urban areas compared to rural areas, highlighting the ongoing challenges these communities face.

      (ii) The survey indicates that Sikhs experienced the highest unemployment rate among religious minorities, increasing from 5.1% in 2022-23 to 5.8% in 2023-24.
