The WHO secured $1 billion for 2025-28, including $700 million in new funding.

The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that it has secured $1 billion in pledges for its upcoming budget for 2025-28.


      - Out of this, nearly $700 million comes from new funding commitments made by various European nations, foundations, and organizations. The remaining $300 million is from previous commitments by the European Union (EU) and the African Union (AU).

      - The announcement was made during the WHO Investment Round Signature Event, co-hosted by Germany, France, and Norway, at the World Health Summit in Berlin, Germany.

     

Main Points:-   (i) Germany has become the largest contributor to the WHO's funding among all European nations, pledging nearly $400 million over four years, including $260 million in new voluntary funding.

      (ii) Other European countries, such as the European Union (EU), Norway, and Ireland, have committed $250 million, $100 million, and $30 million, respectively, to the WHO budget for 2024-28.
