IRENA's report highlights that 2023 marked a record-breaking achievement for solar power generation.

According to the report "Renewable Energy and Jobs Annual Review 2024" from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO), 2023 saw the addition of 347 gigawatts (GW) of photovoltaic (PV) capacity worldwide, which is a 74% increase compared to 2022.

- This makes 2023 a record-breaking year for solar power generation.
- China contributed 63% (216.9 GW) of the new PV capacity added in 2023.
- The year 2023 also saw the largest increase in jobs in the renewable energy sector, rising from 13.7 million jobs in 2022 to 16.2 million in 2023.

(i) Globally, 7.1 million jobs were created in solar PV in 2023, a significant rise from 4.9 million in 2022, making up 44% of the total renewable energy workforce worldwide.
(ii) The report estimates that 1.02 million jobs were created in renewable energy (RE) in 2023.
