The Indian Navy has launched the Missile-Cum-Ammunition Barge LSAM 12.

The Indian Navy (IN) has launched the 'Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 12 (Landing Ship Ammunition) (Yard 80)', which will enhance its naval logistics and firepower.


      - This is the sixth vessel in an eight-ship project aimed at strengthening the Navy's operational capabilities.

      - It was built by M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh (AP).

      - The launch was overseen by Commodore MV Raj Krishna, Company Commander, Mumbai (CoY-Mbi), and was conducted by SEPPL at its launch site, M/s Vinayaga Marine Petro Ltd, Mira Bhayandar, Maharashtra.

Main Points:-   (i) On "February 19, 2021, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and SEPPL signed a contract for the construction of "8 Missile Cum Ammunition Barges".

      (ii) These barges are designed to facilitate the "transportation, embarkation, and disembarkation" of ammunition to naval platforms.

(iii) This project aligns with the "Make in India" initiative, showcasing India's growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing.
