Tunisian President Kais Saied won his second term in the presidential election, receiving 90.69% of the votes. He was first elected in the 2019 presidential election after the death of former president Beji Caid Essebsi, who was Tunisia's first president elected by universal suffrage following the revolution.


      - In July 2021, Saied suspended parliament and amended the constitution to strengthen presidential powers.

      - Kais Saied is the first President of Tunisia born after the country gained independence from France in 1956.

      - He served as the Director of the Department of Public Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics, and Political Sciences in Sousse (Tunisia) from 1994 to 1999.

Main Points:-   (i) His closest competitor, businessman Ayachi Zammel, received only "7.4%" of the votes, while the third candidate, Zouhair Maghzaoui, garnered nearly "2%".

      (ii) Voter turnout for the election was low at just "28.8%", the lowest since Tunisia's Jasmine Revolution in 2011.

(iii) This election marked Tunisia's third presidential election since the 2011 Arab Spring, which resulted in the ousting of longtime dictator Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in January 2011.
