HAL has delivered the first AL-31FP aero engine to the Indian Air Force for the Su-30MKI aircraft.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has handed over the first AL-31FP aero engine, produced under a 240-engine contract, to the Indian Air Force (IAF) at Koraput, Odisha.
- In September 2024, the MoD( Ministry Of Defence )signed a Rs. 26,000 crore contract with HAL for 240 AL-31FP aero engines for the Su-30MKI aircraft, with deliveries scheduled over the next eight years.
Main Points:- (i) The event was attended by Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary (Defence Production) of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), and Dr. D K Sunil, Chairman and Managing Director of HAL.
(ii) This milestone underscores HAL's capabilities in aero engine manufacturing and its commitment to supporting the IAF's Su-30MKI fleet.
(iii) The Sukhoi Engine Division in Koraput was established by HAL to oversee the complete production process of Su-30MKI engines, from raw materials to final assembly.
