Goverment Scheme

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Kongkal Sangma launched the GREEN (Grassroot level Response Towards Ecosystem Enhancement and Nurturing) Meghalaya Plus (GMP) Scheme in Tura, West Garo Hills District. This scheme provides financial incentives of up to Rs 20,000 per hectare annually to communities and individuals involved in forest conservation.

      - This initiative reflects the government's strong commitment to sustainable development and environmental preservation.

      - The scheme works through eco-friendly development projects to fight climate change, preserve biodiversity and improve the livelihoods of local communities.

      - The state government has allocated Rs 200 crore for future forest conservation activities.

Main Points:-   (i) The guidelines have been updated, reducing the minimum land requirement from 2 hectares to 1 hectare, allowing smaller landowners and communities to participate, and thus making the program more inclusive.

(ii) Additionally, an additional reward of Rs 5,000 per hectare is available for community reserve areas and Rs 2,000 per hectare for sacred trees located in very dense forests or eco-sensitive areas.
