The International Day of Non-Violence, observed annually on October 2, commemorates the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, the leader of the Indian Independence Movement known for his philosophy of non-violence and peace.


      - October 2, 2024, marks the 155th anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi's birth and the 18th International Day of Non-Violence.

     

     

Main Points:-   (i)This day was established by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) through resolution A/RES/61/271 on June 15, 2007, following a proposal by Iranian Nobel Laureate Shirin Ebadi in June 2004.

      (ii) In India, October 2 is observed as "Gandhi Jayanti".
