Lokesh Machines has successfully delivered India's first indigenous submachine guns (SMGs) to the Indian Army.

Lokesh Machines Limited, based in Hyderabad, Telangana, has successfully delivered its first significant order of the "Asmi" 9×19 millimeter submachine guns (SMGs) to the Indian Army's Northern Command.


      - This marks the first indigenous SMG developed by the private sector in India.

      -The delivery is part of a significant contract valued at approximately USD 550,000, which entails the supply of 550 Asmi SMGs, enhancing the Indian Army's capabilities with domestically manufactured weaponry.

      - The consignment was officially launched by Major General Rakesh Manocha, the General Officer Commanding of the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh sub-area of the Indian Army.

Main Points:-   (i) This order marks the first large-scale procurement of an indigenous firearm since the introduction of the Indian Small Arms System (INSAS) rifle.

      (ii) The ASMI, which stands for "Ashmita" meaning "pride," weighs 2.4 kg (5.3 lbs), making it 10-15% lighter than similar submachine guns.

(iii) The design was developed in collaboration with the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE) in Pune, Maharashtra, and the Indian Army.
