World rabies day is celebrated on 28 September 2024.

Important Days

World Rabies Day is observed every year on September 28, bringing much-needed attention to rabies, a fatal yet preventable disease that still claims nearly 60,000 lives annually across the world, most of them in impoverished regions of Asia and Africa. Rabies is primarily transmitted to humans through bites from infected dogs, and despite being entirely preventable with timely vaccinations, it remains a significant health threat in many parts of the world. World Rabies Day was first launched in 2007, marking the first event where the call for rabies prevention was made.

Rabies prevention relies heavily on vaccinating both animals and humans, reducing the risk of transmission globally.

Awareness campaigns and accessible healthcare can drastically lower rabies-related deaths in vulnerable areas.
