The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) has introduced a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for its Green Tug Transition Program. This initiative aims to promote sustainability in maritime operations by transitioning to environmentally friendly tugs. The SOP outlines guidelines for the replacement of conventional tugs with green alternatives, focusing on reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. By adopting this program, the MoPSW seeks to lead the maritime industry toward a more sustainable future, aligning with global environmental standards and contributing to the reduction of the sector's carbon footprint.

The program includes financial incentives for stakeholders adopting green tug technologies to encourage widespread participation.

It aims to support research and development in green maritime technologies, fostering innovation and long-term sustainability.
