IAF Grants Clearance to DRDO and BDL for Production of Astra Mark-1 Missiles.

Science and Technology

The Indian Air Force (IAF) has granted clearance to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the production of Astra Mark-1 missiles. This advanced air-to-air missile system, developed by DRDO, is designed to enhance the combat capabilities of Indian fighter jets. The clearance marks a significant step towards bolstering India’s air defense capabilities, ensuring that the Astra Mark-1, with its improved range and accuracy, will play a crucial role in air superiority. The production collaboration between DRDO and BDL is expected to accelerate the missile's deployment in the IAF.

The Astra Mark-1 enhances India's ability to engage enemy aircraft at greater distances with precision.

The production clearance supports India's goal of self-reliance in defense technology and reduces dependency on imports.
