India ranked 159 among 180 countries in 22nd edition of the World Press Freedom Index released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF, short for Reporters sans frontières in French).

India ranked 159 among 180 countries in 22nd edition of the World Press Freedom Index released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF, short for Reporters sans frontières in French). Meanwhile, Pakistan ranked seven spots above India at 152. It had ranked 150 in 2023. Norway topped the ranking, while Denmark was on the second rank in World Press Freedom Index. Sweden ranked third on the list. The index ranks 180 countries on the ability of journalists to work and report freely and independently. Qatar is now the region’s only country where the situation is not classified either as “difficult” or “very serious”. Ireland has dropped out of the Index’s top three countries, replaced by Sweden, while Germany is now one of the top ten countries.


      India had ranked 161 in the 2023 list.
