Indian Chess Player Vaishali Rameshbabu has officially bestowed with title of GrandMaster(GM) by International Chess Federation(FIDE). Vaishali's accomplishment, as the 84th Indian grandmaster and 42nd woman from any country to become a GM, has already been widely recognized. In January, she was presented with the Arjuna Award. Vaishali was a two-time youth champion, winning the Girls Under-12 event in 2012 and the Girls Under-14 in 2015. When she was 12 years old, with a FIDE rating of about 2000, she played in a simultaneous exhibition against GM Magnus Carlsen and won her game. Vaishali is the older sister of GM Praggnanandhaa R. She won the 2023 FIDE Women's Grand Swiss with an 8.5/11 score, thus qualifying for the 2024 Candidates months after her brother did so at the 2023 FIDE World Cup.
