The Solomon Islands has elected former Foreign Minister Jeremiah Manele as its new prime minister. Jeremiah Manele secured 31 votes in a secret ballot involving 49 lawmakers, defeating opposition leader Matthew Wale, who received 18 votes. As the new prime minister, Manele faces the daunting task of navigating the complex geopolitical dynamics in the South Pacific while addressing domestic issues such as economic development, social stability, and governance.


      Jeremiah Manele (born 1968) is a Solomon Island politician currently serving as Prime Minister following the 2024 Solomon Islands general election.

      He is the first prime minister of the country to come from Isabel Province.
