Important Days

Every year 18th April is celebrated as World Heritage Day or International Day for monuments and sites. The International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) proposed to UNESCO in 1982 that 18 April be designated as World Heritage Day. This idea was supported by UNESCO in its 22nd conference held in 1983. Since 1983, ICOMOS has taken the initiative to recommend a specific theme to guide global celebrations of World Heritage Day each year. This day was organized for the first time in 1983. Since then this day is organized every year. This day is supported by UNESCO. The theme of International Day for Monuments and Sites 2024 is 'Disasters & Conflicts Through the Lens of the Venice Charter'.
