Gajraj Systems to install AI based monitoring system to prevent elephant deaths on Indian Railways tracks!
Goverment Scheme
Indian Railways is preparing to deploy "Gajraj System", an artificial intelligence-based solution, on 700 km of railway tracks in forest areas to reduce elephant deaths. The purpose of this monitoring system is to alert loco pilots about the presence of elephants on the tracks. Government figures show that an average of 20 elephants die every year in train collisions in the country, with the majority of incidents occurring in the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) region. According to the NFR, from its launch in December 2022 to July this year, the system issued 9,768 alerts, an average of 41 alerts per day. Whenever an elephant steps on the track, the system issues alerts to various concerned parties, including the train controller, station master, train drivers and other stakeholders, thereby taking precautionary action to prevent potential hazards. Embedded within the OFC network, the device detects vibrations caused by elephants on the tracks, sending real-time alerts to the division control room and a mobile application. It is capable of detecting and locating elephants moving within a radius of 5 meters through fiber optic cable, this system works effectively.
