Important Days

World Water Day is annually celebrated on 22 March to spread awareness about the importance of freshwater. The theme of World Water Day 2024 is ‘Water for Peace’. The idea of World Water Day was proposed in the year 1992 at the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Brazil’s Rio De Janeiro. It was in 1993 when the UNGA declared March 22 as World Water Day.

As per the UN, 2.2 billion still live without safely managed drinking water, including 115 million people who drink surface water.
